I was very excited to hear from Sprout! in Springfield last week. Local food systems is currently my area of study in grad school and I love getting updates about work being done in the northwest to encourage farmers markets and community kitchens.
Sprout! is a regional community food hub serving Eugene and Springfield by providing a location emerging entrepreneurs and a year-round farmers market. They approached PFF during our 2012 grant cycle to request financial assistance to purchase kitchen equipment for their new community kitchen. The Neighborhood Economic Development Corporation (NEDCO) was able to purchase an old church in 2011 to house a regional community food hub and support a year-round farmers market, hence Sprout! was born.
What happens at the kitchen? Check out this recent media feature! (Sprout! is featured from 0-2:20min, 6:30-7:30min, 17-18:30min)
Thanks NEDCO/Sprout! for your commitment to healthy and vibrant communities!
